Horses For Courses
A man called Jim has a car-accident and goes to hospital. His wife, Carol, is acting a bit strange about it. Chris finds out she's dyslexic but she refuses to admit it. Later her son drinks some medicine, she can't read the bottle and everybody finds out she can't read and write when she talks to the RFDS over the radio. Sam buys a horse from Carol, who is an extremely good rider. Sam and Kate are practising together for the big rodeo. Carol doesn't want to ride in the rodeo, she feels embarrassed about being illiterate, but she turns out anyway. There's a beer-strike and Hurtle makes some home brew. But suddenly the whole town starts acting really strangly. Geoff finds out Hurtle has mixed the alcohol with caffeine, which causes personality changes!moreless

        Hurtle: Nah, they knew the state was dry and what they brung, they're keepin'. Whatever happened to country spirit?
        Vic:licks his lips Drier than the Nullarbor.
        Hurtle: Nothin' to settle me nerves, neither.
        Both see Violet and Nancy serving tea. Look at each other.
        Vic: Well, they do say that tea never killed anybody.
        Hurtle: People drink nothin' else.
        Vic: Yeah?

      • Calling the competition as Sam's about to start his run.
        DJ: This is concentration. Einstein on four legs.

      • Kate heads off to get ready for her event.
        Geoff: I'd say break a leg, but under the circumstances I don't think that's a fitting phrase.
        Kate: Well at least the sentiment's there. frowns I think.

      • As Kate gets ready for her run.
        DJ: Next up is our very own Kate "The Great" Wellings.

      • Emma is leading Sam's horse around at the end of the rodeo.
        Sam: Nah, you looked a real natural out there today.
        Emma: Oh, yeah, natural fool.
        Sam: Nah, I'm serious. A few more lessons and-
        Emma: No way. I'm putting all that behind me, so to speak.
        The horse pushes Emma into Sam's arms.
        Emma: Looks up at Sam. See, you can't trust any of these beasts. Hands over the leadrope Ah, thanks anyway. Walks away.
        Sam: Gives the horse a treat A few more tricks like that, mate, she'll be eatin' outa my hand too.
