  • Another stupid episode

    5.0
Another stupid episode where egotistic Ryan goes off on his own thinking he's a super hero. As usual he fails to catch the suspect, put lives in danger and hampers the police.
  • One of the better episodes of the series

    9.0
The episode has a lot going for it, aside from the obvious coalescence of Joe's followers the action is above standard and there are very few stupid moments that hurt the first season. Hardy is far more adept in this episode (and season) than he was before. He's making it personal and not involving the FBI because they just slow him down.

It's the small actions that sells it much better for me. When Ryan chases Gisele's vehicle, he quickly snaps a few photos of the plate -something that probably wouldn't have happened before. He almost got hold of her but was momentarily withheld by strangers. Hardy gets arrested, then released because he's a key part of the investigation. All of these elements make sense from the story perspective and do not trip the show up from its relatively brisk pace.

This show has a lot of detractors but it impresses me quite often and episodes like this more than justify my continual support. You still have two strong male leads who steal the camera each time they take a scene. Now you have some strong backup characters, with the twins invoking perverse wonder and the mother giving you more questions than answers. Jessica Stroup is playing her role quite well, she's a likable ally for Hardy and resourceful enough not to be the stupid victim.

As a gamer it was quite strange to pick up on the voice of Max Payne and not recognize the face, but it was a nice little bonus on top of this great episode. More episodes like this, or better, and I can see the season holding out strong.moreless
  • Why such small actors?

    2.5
I have the same problem with this show I have with Marvel's Agents of . , all the actors are small and not very convincing.

I realized last night when Kevin Bacon was fighting the girl, another pet peeve, that the guys who stopped him were much bigger and older. It seems all the actors are mini size and mostly young.

Nothing kills a show for me like tough guy woman, you can spot her by the baseball cap, there seems to be so many. Maybe I am a suspicious person, but I see this as social engineering going on. And since men are taught by society not to complain about such things, to be silent about gender stupidity, I will speak up and say it is why shows like this fail.

Too many good concept shows are ruined by giving the job to a woman that would be better played by a man.
