  • This was another BRILLIANT episode

    9.0
'Will Gets Committed' is a rather strange title to another great episode. In this episode, Will and the Banks' family head off to their old neighborhood to help clean it up. I like this episode because there really isn't much plot behind the whole thing but instead, much more like Quentin Tarantino's style to film-making, is more lengthy and entertaining dialogue sequences. The characters were still great and seeing Phil angry again was just priceless. However, I like one thing very much about this episode and that is the flashback sequence that was approximately 10 years prior to the current events. The acting in that scene is fantastic and I'm surprised that James Avery didn't reprise his role as the younger Phil

Despite all that said, this episode is worth sitting 22 minutes over for the final conversation between Phillip and Vivian, which is one of the most shocking and hilarious encounters I've come across with the show!

  • Everyone goes back to clean up the projects

    7.0
This was a good episode and better then the last one. I always enjoy seeing someone's past, in this case the former Banks family home. I enjoyed how Carlton gets the women this time and not Will. The best part might have been the flashback. I thought they did great casting but younger Phil was little skinny. I also liked how the flashback was done in a more serious way but still has some comedic elements. i think the trip back had an effect on everyone except Hilary. I liked the ending, It was somewhat a surprise. This was a nice set up for future episodes.moreless

  • Will Gets Commited

    8.9
This episode has so many hilarious moments whether it be predictable Philip, Carlton in love or the 6 a.m. Hillary coming in from mass, dropped off by a Sister that drives a porsche.

Phil's character is developed well in the episode, in particular the flashback with his integrity and devotion, the flashback also having great moments from Hillary, Carlton and Will aswell.

Overall, this is an episode that is very important as Vivian is revealed to be pregnant and Will learns that he needs to help out more and Hillary learns that the house will be empty next weekend so she can throw a party, and is both funny and pivotal to the series.moreless
  • Great Episode with an unusual style and a surprising finish

    9.3
Phil takes the family back to where he and Vivian first lived to help clean up after the fire. Carlton falls in love with one of the volunteers and Will finds a friend in one of the locals. Phil flashes back to when they used to live in the community and how his relationship with Vivian was much more exciting. He remembers how he promised that he would never leave the community and feels that he sold out. Phil also fears that Vivian is having an affair and confronts her. After getting reassurance on the stability of their relationship, Vivian reveals to Phil that she is pregnant.moreless

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Valarie Jones who plays young Hilary also plays Lisa in the episode Deck the Halls.

    • Philip's friend asks if he is the father from Family Matters ? Valerie Jones, who plays young Hilary, played the youngest daughter, Judy, in the pilot of Family Matters , as well as Shavar Ross (Noah) having played Weasel, and Gary Leroi Gray (Young Carlton) having played Little G., so that's three Family Matters cast members in one episode.

    • Goof: After the flashback for a split second you can see someone standing by the corner.

    • Goof: Vivian tells Philip that he has become too predictable, but when he's talking to Geoffrey asks if Geoffrey thinks it's because he has Fruit Loops for breakfast every morning. In other episodes, we see him eating other things than Fruit Loops for breakfast.

    • The young family scene shows a slender Philip. In the fifth season, we see a footage of Philip's proposing to Vivian during a Soul Train show, and he is overweight. He was overweight, lost weight after marrying Vivian and having the kids, then he gained the weight back.

  • QUOTES (9)

    • (Philip is explaining the past)
Philip: Even if you had no money, you always had enough food, as long as Hector liked you.
Will: I'll take it the two of you were in love.

    • Vivian: There are more important things in life than fancy clothes and big houses.
Young Hilary: What have you been smoking?

    • Will: Hey man, I'm from Philly, we had to save up to be poor! You don't get it.
Noah: Yeah I get it allright, you come down here with your X-cap and your cool Doc Martins and you're all dope and word to your mother and you think that makes you committed. This isn't a game, Will, and if you think it is, then maybe you better not come back because you don't get it.

    • Young Will: That honey was about to invite me for some milk and cookies.
Philip: That honey was old enough to be your mother.
Young Will: Word up. And she was divorced, too.

    • Philip: Hector?
      Hector: Curley? Curley!
Will: Curley? They must go WAY back.

    • (Hector is acting crazy around Will, Carlton, and Philip)
Carlton: Dad, don't do anything stupid! You haven't updated your will yet.

    • Philip: Vivian, where were you yesterday?
Vivian: Shooting hoops with Michael Jordan.

    • Will: What does that mean?
      Carlton: You have big ears!

    • Young Carlton: I've been doing a lot of thinking and I decided what I want to be when I grow up.
      Young Will: What, tall?
Young Carlton: President of the United States.
Philip: I would be very proud, my son, the world's first black president.
      Young Carlton: I'm black?
