The Gallant Men tells the story of an American infantry company as it fights its way up the boot of Italy during World War II, led by determined young captain Jim Benedict. The action is seen through the eyes of a war correspondent, which makes this show unique in the genre. Made by the production company that had previously been successful with westerns like Cheyenne and Maverick, and private eye shows like 77 Sunset Strip and Hawaiian Eye, the show suffered in comparison with the similar war series Combat!, which aired on the same network and outlasted it by four years.
