The Game

Show Summary

The Games is Cold War spy thriller set in the world of espionage about the invisible war fought by MI5 to protect England. The cat and mouse battle of wits between British and Russian Intelligence is set in 1972 London with the British trying to find out details about a dangerous and deadly Soviet plot known as Operation Glass. The operation is designed to bring Britain to its knees and the tensions are at a terrifying peak. The series is created and written by Toby Whithouse (Being Human) with episodes written by Debbie O’Malley and Sarah Dollard. It is directed by Niall MacCormick and Daniel O’Hara and executive produced by Hilary Salmon and Toby Whithouse.

MI5's leader is Daddy (Brian Cox) who assembles a secret committee to investigate the threat. Their mission: stop the plot, save Britain and in turn, the world. His agents are trained in the art of persuasion, interrogation and new technology. MI5 agent, Joe Lambe (Tom Hughes) is one of the best; he's a handsome, enigmatic agent who is an expert at undercover work, but haunted by the loss of his lover and his own betrayal against his country. The rest of the team consists of Bobby Waterhouse (Paul Ritter), the career-climbing mummy’s boy with connections to Britain’s high-society, whose private life could ruin him; Sarah Montag (Victoria Hamilton), an intelligent and tough agent whose rise in the male-dominated field of espionage makes her formidable; Alan Montag (Jonathan Aris), MI5’s socially awkward technology brain, and Sarah's husband; Wendy Straw (Chloe Pirrie), a mousy secretary seizing the opportunity to prove her worth and climb the ladder and on loan to the committee from Special Branch, Jim Fenchurch (Shaun Dooley), a no frills police liaison unimpressed by MI5. Together, they must solve the mystery and neutralize the threat before it’s too late. With an enemy who murders, tortures and uses brutal tactics to achieve goals, the team will need to bring their best game to the forefront.
