AIRED:
Garry's guests are Ella Fitzgerald and Mel Torme. Also with regulars Carol Burnett, Durward Kirby, Marion Lorne and Allen Funt. Highlights: "That Wonderful Year" is 1938. A sketch about child movie stars with Mel Torme as Daddy Warbucks and Carol Burnett as a kid brattier than most. Ella sings one of her hit songs from 1938 with "A Tisket, A Tasket". A sketch on "The Fastest Western Ever Made" based on the idea that producers raced through their production to get their shows finished before the actors' strike. Brand X finally gets its just due in a six-minute sketch. The inherent modesty of Brand X is saluted as well as its inferior manufacturing methods. Ella and Mel reprise their duet of earlier this season, ad libbing their way through some lovely songs. "Candid Camera" does a switch revealing the people who recognized Garry Moore when he tried to pass himself off as a clerk.moreless
