AIRED:
Garry's guests are Gwen Verdon and Melody Condos (Martha Raye's daughter). Also with regulars Alan King, Dorothy Loudon and Durwood Kirby. Highlights: "That Wonderful Year" is 1936. When Republicans wore sunflower campaign buttons in support of Alf Landon and FDR carried every state in the nation except Maine and Vermont. It was also the year that Edward VIII gave up the British throne for the "woman he loved". Alan King gives his version of a father's involvement with a suburban small-fry baseball league. Dorothy and Garry are in a comedy sketch about a travel agency whose advertising convinces Garry he's better off staying at home. Durward Kirby as "Mother Benson" runs an insurance company from which Garry tries to collect $200 for injuries. Gwen Verdon sings "Love" and does an old-fashioned soft-shoe. Jim Tusher, one of the show's regular choral singers, has a specially written solo, "In All My Life". All join in for the finale of "Haven't Got a Nickel".moreless
