The George Gobel Show

Show Summary

The George Gobel Show was hosted by the quiet almost shy George Gobel who was affectionately known as "Lonesome George", a very unlikely comedian indeed, but his show was one of TV's top hits in the mid fifties. With familiar sayings from him like "Well, I'll be a dirty bird!" and "You don't hardly get those no more" endeared him to the public until "Gunsmoke" came along and ran opposite him.

During the two seasons that the show aired on Tuesday nights for a full hour he alternated with The Eddie Fisher Show and both stars were regular guests on each other's programs.

For his final season George was picked up by CBS and alternated with The Jack Benny Show.

The theme song for his show was called "Gobelues" by his friend and orchestra leader (Uncle) John Scott Trotter.
