The Golden Girls

Season 3 Episode 15

Dorothy's New Friend

Aired Unknown Jan 16, 1988 on NBC

Episode Recap

When Dorothy continusly complains that her life is dull and boring, she befriends local novelist, Babara Thorndyke after attending a lecture. After Dorothy invites Barbara to dinner, Blanche and Rose thinks that Barbara just flaunts her intelligence to make people feel stupid. Like at dinner when she asked them to pass the Latin.

Blanche and Rose become jealous of Dorothy's friendship with Barbara, especially when Dorothy turns down going to the masquerade ball with them. Instead, she goes with Barbara to the Mortimer Club, a private country club. When Sophia comes with her new beau, Murray, Barbara tells her that he can't attend the Mortimer Club because it's "restricted." When Dorothy finds out that "restricted" means that Barbara has certain prejudices against some people -like Blanche and Rose- Dorothy throws Barbara out and offers to be the back of Rose's horse costume at the ball.

Meanwhile, Sophia tries to land Murray Guttman, a desirable old man at the senior center. Blanche tells her that the trick is to act as if she's not interested.
