When one goes for bloodwork, your results are not returned same day, especially in the 1980s.
When Dorothy is in bed with Sophia and is comforted by the people who claim to be her actual parents, Dorothy actually looks directly at the camera when she says "I think I'm slowly going out of my mind!" This is very unusual, admitting the presence of a camera.
Response to above: I don't think that's what Bea was doing. I think she was clearly looking diagonally. None of Witt/Thomas/Harris shows have ever done this to my knowledge. I think you mistook it.
Vito Scotti previously appeared in the third season episode, "Rose's Big Adventure". Many might recognize him from playing other Italians on other 80's sitcoms, Uncle Aldo Micelli on Who's the Boss?, and Dino Forenzi on Charles in Charge.
In this episode they say that Dorothy was born in a hospital, but in the episode where Sophia was watching Dreyfuss she told Dorothy that she was born on the Pennuckle table at Sal's lodge and even said "Hospital the closest that your father ever got to a hospital was when he delivered ice"
Blanche: Have you ever heard of dirty dancing?
Dorothy: Well of course, Blanche. They did it in that movie.
Rose: What movie?
Dorothy: Lawrence of Arabia, Rose.
Blanche: What do you say, Dorothy?
Dorothy: Oh, no. I can't see myself swinging my hips and widely gyrating my pelvis. I am not interested.
Sophia: And the world heaves a collective sigh of relief...
Sophia: Dorothy, give me a 7-letter word which means "lonely, middle-aged woman desperate to meet men".
Dorothy: Oh, is that a clue on your crossword puzzle?
Sophia: No. I'm getting you a personalized license plate for your car.
Sophia: (walking in after Blanche has just showed Rose how she can dance dirty) Dorothy, what they do is their business. But I swear, if I ever catch you with your hand on Rose's behind, it'll kill me!
Sophia: She has a husband waiting for her back in Sicily, and the man owns a goat. In Sicily, that qualifies you as a yuppie!
Blanche: I have never been so humiliated in my entire life!
Rose: That's not true, Blanche! Remember the time you got caught with the Orkin man?
Blanche: (eyes narrowed) Don't comfort me, Rose.
(Philomena says something in Italian to Dominic)
Blanche: What did she say?
Dominic: She said she wants to thank you for your generous welcome.
Sophia: Oh my Italian must really be rusty, I could swear she asked if you were a streetwalker.
This episode marks the 100th episode, to have aired, of the series. A landmark in every series for sure.
Dorothy says to Rose in sarcasm that she's afraid that Sophia is mother to "Phil Rizzuto". Phil Rizzuto is a hall of fame short stop who played with the New York Yankees in the 40's and 50's. He was the 1950 AL MVP.
