I didn't know she was sick either. I'm surprised she hid it from the public. At least her and Estelle are together eatting cheese cake and ice cream. Sad thought but at least neither of them are suffering.

How I loved Bea in the Golden Girls as did millions of others, she lived a wonderful life and brought smiles to all I will continue to watch the re-runs and smile at her as always saying she was great is an understatement. I too did not know she was ill, I imagine she wanted it that way.

Its ironic that Bea Arthud died a day before the 20th anniversary of Lucille Ball's death.

Just read about the sad news. Rest in peace, Bea, thanks for being a Golden Girl and sweeten my days up so many times by making me laugh at every single line. You'll be missed.

Since when did the late Bea Arthur or anyone have to report their illness? Apparently, she wisely decided to keep this quiet until the very end. Let's all not play her role as Yente in Fiddler on the Roof. Memorable television lines for Bea Arthur in Golden Girls: When asked by a cop why she was so calm and collected during a mugging attempt, she replied: "I taught in the N.Y.C. school system." In Maude: "G-d will get you for that Walter." In Mame with Lucille Ball: "Mame, get your ass on the moon!" Remember how she served the soup at the Italian wedding in "Lovers and Other Strangers." Bernice Frankel, we shall miss you.

One of the best actresses that ever lived! The Golden Girls was my favorite sitcom besides The Nanny. I didn't know the Bea was sick either, it all came as a shock. I hope that they run The Golden Girls special! I will miss her as I miss all the other greats before her. RIP Bea!!

Bea was a comedy great. I will miss her talent and timing--and her "if looks could kill" reactions to Rose, Ma and Blanche.

I knew this woman was funny before I was old enough to know why. From my earliest childhood TV memories to her fantastic appearances on the Pamela Anderson Roast and her Futurama voiceover, Bea Arthur's presence was a guarantee of unique humor and wit. She will be sorely missed by all.

This was sad news. I'll never forget that deep, dark voice. I used to watch Golden Girls when I was about eight, nine years old, and I think Bea Arthur even appeared in my dreams around that time.

    RIP, Bea.

How sad. They said on the Today show that Bea had cancer and was very private, so pretty much no one knew she was ill. She was an insperation to female actors everywhere and will be missed.
