I am so sad. Estelle Getty brought me so much joy and happiness in her brilliant portrayal of Sophia. Ms. Getty was a true gem.

Estelle's character of Sophia was by far my favorite Golden Girl. With her spunk and her stories from Sicily. She will always be remembered. Rest in Peace dear Estelle. You will be greatly missed.

    She will be missed.

In fact, like Kelsey Grammer who played Frasier on two different sitcoms, Sophia lasted 10 years. After the CBS failure of Golden Palace, Sophia was back on NBC when she joined the spinoff series, Empty Nest, until its 1995 demise.

My favorite of the bunch. Estelle/Sophia/Ma will be missed by anyone and everyone who watched or caught a glimpse of The Golden Girls. I'm glad that she went peacefully and now she can be a Golden Girl, as someone mentioned. ET had a special on her today and they'll be showing more or a tribute to her Wednesday. We all love ya, Ma.

The saddest fact to learn is that Estelle was only 3 days away from her 85th birthday. That is very similar to my Grandmother, who just died. She died 2 days after her birthday.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow (Wednesday July 23) The Insider and ET will be having more coverage on Estelle, including information about her funeral arrangements and etc.

On another note, here is the link to the "Vote For Your Favorite Sophia Episode" poll from Lifetime. They will be airing a marathon on July 25th, (Estelle's birthday!) from 12 until 5. The last episode will be the one that the viewers voted for the most.

Your post brought tears to my eyes!

I stopped by the Lifetime site to vote for the final episode on Friday. One of the choices is "Old Friends," where Sophis befriends Alvin who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. How ironic that Estelle Getty suffered from dimentia at the end of her life.

I noticed that. I thought it fitting that it was a choice, and I voted for that episode. Estelle was truly brillant in it. Her best episode, imho. But then again, she was phenomenal in them all...

It took a while for me to digest it. She will be missed. I agree with the other poster who said "Heaven must have been needing a Golden Girl". She brought joy to me and my family for over a decade.

    R.I.P. Mrs. Getty.

Very sad indeed....she was such an amazing person. Fighting along-side so many causes, and standing up for people who needed her help. I'll be very very sad for a while, knowing that one of 'our girls' is gone forever. At least thanks to reruns and dvd, we can see Estelle whenever we want.....I think I'll go rent the MASK again....or maybe STOP OR MY MOM WILL SHOOT. Either way, I'm gonna need an Estelle fix soon.

    We love ya 'ma!!!!

I'm glad she finally passed in a way. She was a very classy lady who brought so much joy and laughter to so many people. She didn't deserve to suffer the way she did the last several years. I don't think you can call what she was doing "Living". R.I.P
