A surprise visit from Dorothy's daughter, Kate puts all of the girls in a good mood, but becomes more thrilling when Kate announces she's engaged to a doctor(really a podiatrist) named Dennis. The couple had planned to get married in the Bahamas, but Dorothy insists they have the wedding in Miami. Kate is willing to agree, but she has one request to invite her father, Stanley Zbornak, Dorothy's ex-husband. Dorothy has a serious hatred for Stan because he dumped her for a young blonde stewardess named Chrissy during a mid-life crisis. Not even mad at Stan for cheating, Dorothy is even more upset with having the news broke to her over the phone by a lawyer. To keep her daughter happy, Dorothy agrees to invite him.
Dorothy promises to be on her best behavior, but when Stan appears at the door, old feelings of hatred soon rears its ugly head. She swears she will never be happy until she has tasted Stan's blood leaving Rose and Blanche the duty to keep their eyes on her during the wedding and reception at the house. Dorothy is relaxed during the whole service, but at the reception, tempers start to flare. She vanishes to her room and Sophia follows. Sophia offers her some advice "anger is like a piece of Shredded Wheat under your dentures". Dorothy must get rid of her anger for Stan or it will continue to pain her.
Dorothy cheers up for the remainder of the reception, but later she brings Stan to the lanai and gives him a piece of her mind. She was hurt that Stanley allowed thirty-eight years and children to be wasted in one night. Stan apologizes, not that is matters now, and Dorothy asks him to leave, feeling better than ever.
