Rose said that St. Olaf license plates don't say "Big Statue Country" for nothing. However, St. Olaf wouldn't have its own license plate, it would have to use the Minnesota state license plate.
Isn't it so convenient that Yutz Hernzberg, the man who married Old Space Needle has the same nickname Sophia gives to Stan? This couple also must have known Stan and Dorothy intimately as well because they, too, were conveniently married for 38 years.
Response: I thought the entire story was made up to prove a point, and she used the same information to do that.
Stan makes a deal of needing Dorothy's help to tie his tie, but in close ups you can see he is wearing a clip-on.
Blanche mentions a T-shirt with "I lost my ... in Vegas." On Lifetime, the soundtrack is muted during the missing word and even the closed captioning doesn't show what Blanche said. However, on the DVD, presents the line intact, "I lost my ass in Vegas."
When Dorothy and Stan were talking, Dorothy said that Stan would need to fasten her pearls. But when they came back home, Dorothy wasn't wearing any pearls.
Blanche: You have a museum [in St. Olaf] where children go to learn about cheese?
Rose: Hey, it's better than them learning about it in the streets!
Rose: The plan was, we'd drop these highly trained attack cows behind enemy lines. Problem is, it wasn't until they were airborne that we realized, cows can't pull a ripcord!
Rose: (about Stan's latest invention) What's a "Zborny?"
Dorothy: I put up with it for thirty-eight years, Rose. Trust me, you don't want to know.
(The girls and Stan are watching a commercial for his patented potato opener on TV)
Television Narrator: Now, you can finally open your baked potato without burning your hands!
Rose: (watching wide-eyed) No, it can't be done!
Dorothy: (about how Stan's changed) This is not the same man who screamed 'Paint my toenails, we've invaded Korea!'
Blanche: Rose, do you think we could call St. Olaf and you could explain it to them the way I explained it to you?
Rose: We can try but we might not be able to get anybody...it's Everybody-Hide-in-the-Corn Day.
(Dorothy has told Stan off and he is walking out the door, and Sophia's running after him.)
Sophia: Hey, Stan can I be "Pothead?"
Dorothy: Stan, I am not driving around in a car with license plates that say "Pothead."
Stan: It's an abbreviation, I didn't have room for the whole potato head.
Blanche: Since I hate yard sales, how about I take all that stuff off your hands for say...fifty dollars?
Rose: Fine, but a deal's a deal. I don't want you complaining that something doesn't fit right or smells funny, or makes people point at you and giggle.
Blanche: Good God, what do you have in those boxes?
Rose: As we say in St. Olaf, crapola in a box.
In the Final Draft of the script, Dorothy mentions how Stan was also trying to buy Kate and Michael (their children's) love. However, it must've been changed during the filming that night because it is not seen in the final cut.
The title of this episode is a take-off of the expression "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again."
