According to Rue McClanahan's interview with TVLegends, this episode is her favorite.
In the first scene of this episode, Dorothy has a bowl of popcorn on her lap. The amount of popcorn changes between shots. It immediately goes from overflowing to being only about half full.
Dorothy sings "What'll I Do" and "Hard-Hearted Hannah". Blanche sings "I Wanna Be Loved By You".
When Blanche is performing for the guys at the Rusty Anchor, she sits in the lap of a man that just had hip surgery. However, when she starts to twirl the microphone around and round and loses control of it, the man who had hip surgery has no problem in standing quickly and running away from the table.
The end credits of this episode feature Dorothy singing once again. This ending is not shown in syndication on Lifetime.
Bea Arthur's big number ("Hard Hearted Hannah") is the same number Arthur performed on an episode of "Maude" back in the 70's.
The episode title, Journey to the center of attention is a reference to novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" written by Jules Verne.
