Even though this episode is a dream, how come the women ask Blanche who this man is? Obviously after over six years together, they would have seen pictures of George and know what he looks like.
This might be considered a nitpick: How come Blanche doesn't confront her husband George about cheating on her? (In the episode "An Illegitimate Concern", you discover that George had an affair resulting in a son named David.)
(Hearing Dorothy say she got Flowers From Stars and She thought they wouldn't believe her)
Sophia: And why wouldn't we Miss Junior Prom 1948?
Dorothy: (warning tone) Ma, you promised.
Sophia: (To Girls) Dating the quarterback she says, buys her own corsage and spends the rest of the evening in the basement slow-dancing with a rake. She would've gotten away with it, but while she was giving herself hickeys with a vacuum cleaner she stepped into a puddle!
Blanche: (about Sophia) You'd think she'd at least feel sorry for me.
Rose: To tell you the truth, I don't feel sorry for you, either. I mean, why should I? My Charlie is dead, and nobody's giving me a second chance. Listen, Blanche, I know what it's like to have a husband suddenly taken. I never had a chance to say all of things I would have wanted to say. Well, you must know how that feels.
Blanche: Yes, but after what he did to me....
Rose: Blanche, this isn't about getting even. For nine years, you've been missing George. Now he's here, and I'm jealous of you. Tell him you love him. Tell him you hate him. I don't care, but just see him before he leaves. Do it for yourself. Do it for all of us who wish we had the chance.
Blanche: Since the funeral, I've been with other men. Many, many men. I always felt like I was cheating on you.
George: Oh, Blanche, every day I was gone, I always wished you'd find someone who could make you happy. How--how many men?
Blanche: (pauses) Two....
Blanche: I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I need to ask for your forgiveness.
George: What? I'm the one who should be down on my knees after what I did!
Blanche: George, the day you died--or didn't die--I was home alone when the phone rang. I ran to answer it, and I tripped over your damn shoes, and I said, "Oh, George, I hate you!" It was the police, telling me you had been in an accident. I never thought I'd have the chance, but I'm so sorry that the last thoughts I had of you were "I hate you."
Blanche: Sonny Bono, get off my lanai!
George: Blanche, that's Sonny Bono! He's a major television star.
Blanche: Boy, you have been gone a long time!
Sonny Bono: How many gold records do you have?
Lyle Waggoner: None...I was never married!
Lyle Waggoner states he was never married. He had been married to Sharon Kennedy since 1960.
This episode was videotaped on November 09, 1990.
Blanche states that George died nine years ago which would have been 1981.
Guest star George Grizzard who plays Blanche's husband George previously guest starred in the fifth season episode, "That Old Feeling" as George's brother, Jamie.
When Lyle and Sonny start to fight, Sonny asks "And how many gold records do you have?" Lyle responds with "None; I've never been married". This is an allusion to Sonny's success in the music business as part of the duo, Sonny and Cher, with his then wife, Cher. Sonny had tried to break into music on his own, but never found success until Cher joined him.
When Lyle is arrested, and it is said that the Police Department of Palm Springs is behind it, this is a subtle allusion to Sonny Bono (also in the episode), who was Mayor of Palm Springs from April 1988 – April 1992.
