Just as the girls are about to order a pizza, the phone rings. It's the Miami airport: they've caught Sophia trying to leave the country.
Dorothy goes to get Sophia, and feels responsible for Sophia's burning down the home. Rose and Blanche tell her that she's right to feel guilty. Then Blanche comes up with a great idea: have a "going to prison" party in which they sentence men to ten minutes on the lanai and other punishments.
Rose comes back, breathless with a new discovery: there was a problem with the building and three days before it burned, the fire inspector left town and now is living in a swanky suburb. He collected on the take. When their attorney stops by again, Sophia's memory is jogged to a song they sang that night, and she realizes that she still has the hotplate – it's back in her room, where she was about to use it to make s'mores.
The girls celebrate Sophia's acquittal, and she admits she's relieved more than ever in her life not to be parted from them.
