  • Rose loses her job and then has is a victim of age discrimination

This is not necessarily a funny episode, as it revealing. The story rose tells about the bag lady, she sees on the street and how she fears that she might end up a bag lady, was really guite rivetting to listen to. Its a shame that older people are often looked over for the younger, but that is a part of societies psychy. I was so glad she got the job on television and how happy she got about it. Betty white has a great ability to connect with an Audience, and her performance in that episode, she realy connected with me. I could feel her emotionsmoreless

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • This is Rose's second bout with finding a new job. The first was during the first season when the counseling center closed.

    • Viewed by 30.7 million people, ranking #4 for the week.

    • According to Marc Sotkin, when writing this episode, had wanted to title it something along the lines of "The Rose Goes Back to Work Show" or something like that, at which point Executive Producers told him they don't title their shows that way, and in an effort to be sly, named episodes like "Ebb Tide" which, to him didn't make sense, but apparently pleased the producers.

    • Apparently Rose travels quite extensively to get to work, because she'd be working in Hollywood. The exterior shots of the television station where Enrique Mas works is the same building where the girls taped their game show "Grab that Dough" in Hollywood. Apparently the same exact building exists in Miami and Hollywood.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Rose: Oh, thank you, Mr. Mas!

Enrique Mas: You can call me...(rolling 'r's)...Enrrrrique!

      Rose: ...no, I don't think I can.

    • Enrique:Ever since I was a little boy, I've wanted to be on television. Do you have any idea what that's like for a Hispanic kid? Who were my role models? Zorro and Ricky Ricardo! A gay caballero and a man who couldn't recognize his own wife in a fake mustache!

    • Dorothy: Ma, what's wrong?
      Sophia: I think I'm pregnant.
Dorothy: What happened? The rabbit died laughing?

    • Blanche: Be sure you dress youthfully.
      Rose: How come?
      Sophia: You're old.

    • Sophia: (referring to Rose cutting out classifieds) You're not cutting up the obituaries are you? I want to make sure my canasta game is still on for tomorrow.

    • Rose: Every day on my way to work, I pass by this bag lady, she has all her stuff in one of those old shopping carts. Well the other day I realized she's about our age, you always feel sorry for someone like that but you wonder what happened that they got into this situation. I figured she must be lazy, or she must be pretty stupid to let a thing like that happen to her, but if you think about it...she's me.

    • Rose: I don't want to make a fuss.
Blanche: Well then call Enrique Mas and let him make your fuss for you. Rose you've got to fight this.

    • Dorothy: You know, this is how Imelda Marcos got started with that shoe thing.

Dorothy is referring to Imelda Marcos, First Lady of the Philippines from 1965-1986. She had a world-renowned collection of over 1,000 pairs of shoes.
