  • A new style of humor for the show. The new writers come in and re invent the show.

The show would not really reach the heights that it did in its second season but season 5 had some real gems and this is one of them. I loved the stare scene. Just this glare that they give blanche, which makes this episode so enjoyable and as we all already know no body can stare better than bea arthur. 'oh boy, we're going to the sperm bank' Sophia is brillant and in the fifth season takes on a bigger role, with more air time than in recent seasons.

Rose's story about the lazy cow is one of the funniest things i have ever heard. As i type this im laughing at the line 'You haven't seen anything until you've seen a frustrated cow'

I laugh more than the overtly enthusiastic live audience

I also loved blanche at the start with her yelling for the governess story. In this episode she learns to grow up, she realises that letting your children do what they want, and accepting their decision, is something that they have to do, so to learn in life

  • One of my absolute favorite episodes!

I loveed Sophia wanting to be part of the sperm story. Seeing her just going to the doctor so that she could go to the sperm bank was classic. I loved it when they were in the man's office and the girls were talking about it. I also enjoyed the "eww" moment. Very funny episode and one of my favorites.

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Dorothy: Look among the four of us we've all coneived our children in different ways, I was totally unconcious! (they all stare at her) When I came too, there was Stan, carving a Notch in his Dashboard.

Sophia: (skeptical) I never bought that Unconcious story.

Dorothy: I swear he must have slipped me something.

      Sophia: Apparently!

    • Blanche: What does one wear to a sperm bank?
      Dorothy: Something attractive and rubber.

    • Rose: You know, I've read that you can even buy the sperm of Nobel Prize winners. Or is it, Star Search winners?
Blanche: Buy? Well, sperm used to be free, it was all over the place!

    • Rebecca: Well, Mama, I'm gonna do this whether you like it or not.
Blanche: Oh... oh, I see, missy, so this is the thanks I get for all those cold nights when you were a baby crying, and I'd have to get up out of bed and grope around in the dark for my slippers and robe, and make my way all the way downstairs, and... scream for the governess?

    • Dorothy: What do you want me to do, take you to court, have you declared incompetent?
Sophia: I'm not incompetent, once when I laughed too hard, I had a little accident.

    • Blanche: At least what we all did was natural.
Sophia: Well, not all of it...there is some other stuff, but I probably shouldn't tell you till you're 70.

    • Blanche: My daughter is going to have a baby by artificial insemination.
      (The girls stare at her)
Blanche: I just can't bear to think about it.
      (The girls continue to stare)
      Blanche: I'm just being silly aren't I?
      (The girls continue to stare)
Blanche: Well for God's sake, somebody say something.
      Rose: Ewwwwwww.
      Dorothy: Big help.
Blanche: Well what about you Dorothy you're always the sensible one around here. The free modern thinker who keeps up with the times. What do you think?
      Dorothy: Ewwwwwww.

  • NOTES (4)

    • The title of this episode alludes to the biblical reference "the immaculate conception" which describes Mary's non-sexual conception of Jesus.
