  • Season 6, Episode 13.

This episode rocked. Like every other episode of The Golden Girls, it was hilarious. Sophia calling the radio station about Dorothy was hilarious! Blanche seemed very out of character, which was kind of good. Her boyfriend was really mean though. I can't believe he grabbed Dorothy like that. Also, Rose was very hilarious. I loved that she wanted to make Miles go sky diving with her. I loved it. It was hilarious when she said that she was going to visit him in the hospital and that he broke his leg. It was also very funny when she said she didn't jump. Rose is probably the funniest, as well as Sophia.moreless
  • The best way to make a "special" episode.

I really think that this episode was great. My husband and I are fairly young and we love to sit and watch this show over and over, but this episode is one of our favorites. We always like the episodes that have a "special" meaning to them in the end. This one hits the spot. The writers of this episode showed in accurate detail that abuse comes in many forms and can be very deceiving. The fact that Dorthy sticks up for Blanche the way she does is wonderful, and in the end it makes Blanche realize how great her friend is. A "special" episode does not need to be too violent (much like the shows are today). This one gets the point across in a way we can all understand and sympathize, without too much abuse.moreless
  • Rose wants Miles,to be more exciting!

Rose begin to tell the girls that she thinks that her relationship with Miles, are boring. They were nothing exciting as her relationship with Charlie.Of course she told that to Miles as well.Dorthy feels that Blanche is dating someone that isn't perfect for her.Even the way he treats her.Altough Blanche doesn't think so its just the way he acts and told Dorthy,to mind her own business.Meanwhile Rose and Miles heads off to sky dive from the plane. However after revealing Charlie never done it.In the end, they decided to do it together. After learning the action that Rex did to Dorthy.Blanche breaks her date with him.

Never let anyone take an advantage of you.moreless
  • Rose wants to spice up her relationship with Miles.

At this point, I still enjoyed the Roes and Miles relationship, until they went had had Miles admitting to being a totally different person. The abuse story with Blanche's date was good, because it proved just how desperate Blanche was to have a man. I enjoyed when she through the man out. All in all, a good episode.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Rex comes over to pick up some laundry that Blanche did for him. However, he remarks that it's too late to go out, which begs the question, why did Rex come all the way over to her house solely to pick up what appears to be two pairs of underwear and a couple of shirts (that look way too small for him anyway)?

    • In the very first scene of the episode, the laundry in Blanche's basket keeps changing, both in content and the fact that suddenly, it is folded.

    • In Season One Rose's character is so proper, it pains her to even mention someone having to burp, and now she has no problem describing what kind of sex she has and how long it lasts. Rose said early on in the show how prim and proper she was raised. Apparently the bloom is off that rose, too.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Blanche: Well, I have everything I need…sun tan lotion and a string bikini. I don't want the fish to be the only ones nibblin'!
Sophia: Or flopping around in the boat.

    • Dorothy: You're lucky. Most people in an abusive relationship have to hit rock bottom before they can get out of it.
Sophia: Your bottom's a lot higher than most people's.

    • Rose: Are you excited?
      Miles: Dumbstruck.
Rose: Oh, I know that feeling.

    • Dorothy: (watching Blanche fold some laundry) Men's underwear?
Sophia: Getting a little misty-eyed, are we Pussycat?

    • Rose: Let's face it, you and I are Dull City, population two!

    • Dorothy: You actually had a good time at a thimble museum?
      Miles: Well, sew-sew. Ha!

    • Rose: Charlie had a theory. Even a trip to the bank could be exciting…if you wore a ski mask.

    • Dorothy: Ma, I thought you liked the Lunar Landing jigsaw puzzle!
Sophia: Sure, Pussycat. It makes however much time I have left seem so much longer.

    • Dorothy: (about Blanche) I can't stop her from seeing you but I'll be damned if I'm going to hurry her along.
Rex: Who do you think you are?
      Dorothy: A Friend.
Rex: (clamps his hand down on her arm) I've had just about enough of you.
      Dorothy: You're hurting me!
      (Blanche and Sophia enter)
      Blanche: Stop that!
Rex: Are you ready to go?
Blanche: I think you better leave.
Rex: If I walk out that door, I'm not coming back.
Blanche: That's a promise I'm going to see that you keep.

    • Rose: Boy am I glad I didn't jump.

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode seems out of character for Blanche. Although she has always been man-hungry, she has never been portrayed as a victim in any way. It is similar to the events of the "Facts of Life" episode "Magnificent Obsession". Blair, a flirt who never takes any of the men she dates seriously, out of character, lets a new boyfriend mistreat her and walk all over her.
