When Angela first arrives through the door with only her purse, Blanche offers to bring in her luggage. Angela claims she never travels with luggage ever since she found a dead man in her suitcase. However, throughout the episode she is seen wearing 3 different outfits. A white one when she arrived, a red one at Sophia's party, and a blue one as she is departing. This doesn't make sense. Even if she had bought them during her visit, which isn't likely, when she is seen getting ready to leave she is still only carrying her purse. What about her other two outfits?
If Angela and Sophia really do hate each other that much, why would Angela agree to come all the way from Italy to Sophia's birthday party in Miami?
While Rose tries to get Sophia out of the house via the back door, Angela appears at the front door. First off, since we've seen on several occasions a car pulling into the front of the house in exterior shots, and since the garage being in the back of the house, obviously doesn't hold a car, why is Rose ushering Sophia out the back only to bring her back around to the front of the house?
As close as Dorothy and Sophia have always been, I've always wondered why Dorothy never knew that the two sisters hated each other.
Dorothy: Aunt Angela, you don't have to go!
Angela: Sorry, Dorothy; I'd love to stay, but I hate your mother.
Sophia: Except for making love in only one position, I've lead a very full life.
Sophia: Don't you want to know why I'm sitting alone in the dark?
Dorothy: I already know why. Your birthday's coming up, and you're depressed about being another year older.
Sophia: No, I'm depressed because you keep getting me lousy birthday presents!
Dorothy: Ma, you want better birthday presents, adopt Monty Hall.
Sophia: I wish I could. Jewish sons are the best.
Dorothy: So Ma, are you enjoying your party?
Sophia: No. Now give me my present!
Dorothy: You were supposed to take Ma shopping.
Rose: Yes, but Sophia keeps making excuses about not going shopping
Sophia: (referring to Angela) This is my surprise?
Dorothy: Yes. Happy Birthday, Ma.
Sophia: Happy Birthday?!?!? You call this old bag a present?? I hate that woman!
Angela: I hate her double!
Dorothy: You win. You always win
Sophia: I know. Me and Mighty Mouse
(Dorothy secretly revealing Sophia's birthday surprise to Blanche and Rose.)
Dorothy: I'm flying Ma's sister Angela over from Sicily.
Rose: And she's bringing the surprise?
Blanche: Rose, she is the surprise!
Sophia: May you put your dentures in upside down and chew your head off! Angela: May your legs grow old and knarled and withered like an old olive branch you should be so lucky! Sophia: May your moles grow hair thicker then Jerry Vale's. Angela: May your marinara sauce never cling to your pasta! Sophia: Ahhhh! come back here and say that to my face!
Angela: You kissed my Carmine!
Sophia: What? I never kissed Carmine; YOU never even kissed Carmine!
Dorothy: Won't you try to work things out? Please do it for your favorite niece.
Angela: What's your cousin Gratziella got to do with this?
(after Sophia and Angela have reconciled)
Dorothy: I can't believe it.
Blanche: I think it's sweet!
Rose: I think I'm gonna cry!
Dorothy: I think they should both be committed!
