Sophia comes in and scares the dickens out of the girls by yielding a giant knife. How did she get this knife? The episode starts with Rose entering the dark kitchen and no one being awake. Did Sophia somehow anticipate they'd be up all night, run into the kitchen beforehand to grab a weapon and plan her surprise?
In this episode Rose is overly honest, and is proud of it, but in the season four premiere, Rose is excited about cheating a restaurant out of a cake.
The series flashbacks to when Dorothy came to look at the house with Sophia. However, Sophia looks nothing like she did in the Pilot.
We learn in this episode that Blanche had two roommates prior to Rose and Dorothy. Blanche's former roommates she described as two old ladies and "sticks-in-the-mud" whom she eventually kicked out.
When the girls are getting their groceries rang up at the market, the cashier rings up the same bottle of Windex twice before Rose tells her she put in the wrong price.
Rose: Excuse me, you made a mistake. Those peaches aren't 59 cents a pound, they're 89 cents. Honesty is the best policy.
Blanche: What are you trying to do Rose, qualify for some kind of scout badge?
Rose: Well, I can't help it if I'm an honest person. Obviously something you don't know anything about.
Blanche: What are you talking about?
Rose: Well, you bought pantyhose in petite. Anybody can see you couldn't get those past your knees!
Blanche: Hey, I think we'd get along great. I got a feeling you're a wild woman.
Rose: Oh, you bet I am! I eat raw cookie dough. And occasionally, I run through the sprinklers and don't wear a bathing cap. And at Christmas, I've been known to put away more than one eggnog.
Blanche: Now, Dorothy, would you say you're a neat person?
Dorothy: Oh, yes. Very, very neat.
Sophia: Oh, please! You're neat and I wear a D-Cup!
Dorothy: Tell me, Rose, did they ever shoot a herring out of a cannon?
Rose: Only once. But they shot him into a tree. After that, no other herring would do it.
Blanche: I have a room for rent, and the name is Blanche Devereaux.
Rose: Why would you name a room Blanche Devereaux?
Blanche: That shower scene is the reason I prefer not to shower alone.
Dorothy: Sure, Blanche, and Goldilocks and the Three Bears is why you prefer not to sleep alone.
Blanche: It was then I realized that my bosoms had the power to make music!
Dorothy: Didn't Bette Midler win a special Grammy for that?
Madame Zelda: I see a man kneeling over a woman in a nurse's uniform.
Blanche: If it was last Wednesday, that was me and the gentleman I'm currently dating. But that was a French maid's uniform.
Dorothy: After that, I was sure I had messed up. But then, I met Rose and I realized I could've shown up naked and playing a ukelele and still gotten the room.
Blanche: Alright, who put the Raisin Bran in the refrigerator?
Dorothy: I did, do you have a problem with that?
Blanche: Yes, I do. I have two problems with it. First of all, there isn't room for it in there and second of all it doesn't go in the refrigerator. It goes in the cabinet.
Dorothy: It does not go in the cabinet. It stays fresher in the refrigerator.
Blanche: No, it does not. If it stayed fresher in the refrigerator, there would be a sign on it saying to refrigerate.
Rose: Actually you're both wrong. It doesn't belong in the refrigerator, it doesn't belong in the cabinet. It belongs in a glass canister. That way, it's not only visually appealing but you can see if they cheated you out of raisins. I thought everybody knew that.
Dorothy: You know, until I met you Rose, I didn't know that people actually talked back to their Rice Krispies.
(Blanche and the clerk talk in the produce section.)
Grocery Clerk: Those are nice cantaloupes.
Blanche: Why, thank you!
(after Rose gets the room Dorothy wanted)
Rose: I'll make it up to you Dorothy, I promise. Listen, if there's ever a night where you can't sleep, I'll come to your room and sing Kumbaya.
Dorothy: Rose, I don't know what to say...yes I do: don't ever do that!
