Blanche reveals her phone number is 555-E-A-S-Y. That would make her phone number 555-3279.
When Sophia has both Gloria and Dorothy by her side, she says something like "My two little girls...." and raises both of their arms. All three begin to sit on the couch when it cuts to a shot of Blanche. But when it cuts back to Sophia, Gloria, and Dorothy, they repeat the same action of beginning to sit on the couch.
In one of Sophia's flashbacks, she remembers how Dorothy tells her she was pregnant. However, in Season 3's "Brotherly Love", she claims that Dorothy didn't tell her until 4 days after she (Dorothy) and Stan were married.
This is the final episode, with the exception of the finale, to feature music over the credits. The rest of the season would feature tags/codas, which are a short final scene, over the credits.
In Sophia's flashback to 1949, her house has a television in the living room. However; in another episode Sophia and Dorothy flashback to the 1950s and Dorothy is going to buy Sophia her first television set.
On the doctor's desk, you can see the traffic-cone monkey that will take center stage in The Monkey Show (1).
In this episode, Rose mentions St. Olaf's most famous psychotherapists, Sigmund and Roy. I thought that St. Olafians didn't believe in doctors or psychiatrists.
During the therapy session, Stan mentions that his mother never liked him, but in an earlier flashback episode, it was revealed that although Stan's mother thought he was a "yutz" and liked Dorothy, she made him think that he was the center of her world.
In this episode, Sophia mentions how Sal has been dead for seventeen years. However, in season four, Dorothy says that her father has been dead for twenty-seven years.
Sophia admits in this episode that she had another arranged marriage to a man named Guido that she later had annulled. However, only a few episodes later, she goes to Sicily to square things off with another man named Guidio, who she did not marry and left a broken man. Not only this, but in season five, Sophia was supposedly left at the alter by Guiseppie Mangiacavello. How many marriages or attempted marriages did Sophia go through before she finally met Sal?
Melissa is the child of Blanche's daughter Janet, and she is seven years old. Yet, in the episode "On Golden Girls," which aired during Season 1, we meet Janet's son David, who is 14, and we are led to believe that he's an only child. Melissa would have existed back then (she would have been a year old), but she was never talked about. For that matter, we actually meet Janet herself later this season, in "Home Again, Rose," and in that 2-part episode, she has a 4-year-old little girl named Sarah, and Melissa is never even mentioned.
At the beginning of the episode, Rose says she was the "Sherlock Holmes of St Olaf" prompting Dorothy to quip "Figured out which one was the Shinola?". Shinola was a shoe polish quite popular in early 20th century, especially during World War II. It was during this time that the phrase "doesn't know sh*t from Shinola" was coined to mean someone who doesn't know much.
Trivia During the first mock murder, two of the guests are murdered, an old man and his new young bride. The old man's children are blamed, Phillip and Gloria. These are also the names of Dorothy's siblings.
At the end of the episode, when she asks Dorothy to carry her purse for her, we learn that Sophia was slowly pilfering pieces of the table setting throughout the murder mystery weekend.
Blanche tries to tell Rose that what happened with Charlie happened over 8 years ago. Even though, we learn the man wasn't Charlie, the three women have supposedly been living with Blanche since 2 years before the series began, which at this point, would mean they've been together 9 years. So this story isn't possible because Charlie would have already been dead 8 years prior.
Dorothy says that she and Sophia are going to hear the philharmonic orchestra play "Beethoven's Sonata 29". But a sonata is a solo piano piece and wouldn't be performed by an orchestra.
While this is true, they may be going to see the philharmonic play and Beethoven's Sonata 29may be the highlight with a guest musician playing solo piano pieces.
About the hearing aid thing, apparently Sophia seems to need one when Dorothy's date John Nerritti (EPI. 150 - WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DATE MAKES) says "You haven't aged a bit!" twice. Sophia claims to have heard him, only to repeat to herself "Only staged a hit??" Yet 5 episodes later (EPI. 155 - HEY, LOOK ME OVER), her hearing is fine and Dorothy's is not.
In this episode Dorothy thinks Sophia needs a hearing aide. After much coaxing Sophia goes to the ear doctor with Dorothy and they not only find out that not only is Sophia's hearing great, but they find out that Dorothy needs a hearing aide. But in another episode Sophia mentions that if she turns up her hearing aide she can "hear a parakeet break wind in Lauderdale"...
In this episode, Blanche tells the girls that her full name is Blanche Elizabeth Devereaux, but in the episode "Wham, Bam, Thank You, Mammy," Mammy Watkins reprimands Blanche and calls her Blanche Marie.
