Sophia says that she'd had her purse for 30 years. In the Golden Girls episode "From Here to the Pharmacy," Sophia overstocked her purse with Preparation H, prompting Dorothy to get her a new one. This means she's only had that exact purse for only a year or so.
This episode was the series finale.
Although this is the final episode that was broadcast, it was not the final to be filmed (and it's the only episode that aired out of filming sequence). In production order, it falls between "You've Lost That Livin' Feeling" and "A New Leash on Life."
Due to cancellation, this is the very last episode of The Golden Palace to air during the original run. According to a source, it ALMOST made it to the returning series list, but the night before they presented it, it was axed.
Blanche: Daughters just love to come watch their mothers get older.
Rose: Oh, honey, I'm sure she's coming to watch you get fatter too!
Bobby Lee: Blanche, there's something I been meaning to ask you.
Blanche: I'm 42 years-old.
Bobby Lee: Yeah, you mentioned that. Uh, so that means you were born in...
(Roland hosts a self-defense course)
Sylvia: My husband says that I'm frail and old and just asking for trouble.
Roland: And what is your specific goal for this course?
Sylvia: I'd like to put the bastard through a window.
Rose: Where are you going to find an egg? It has to be a human one, right?
Blanche: No, Rose, I'm going to give birth to an 8-pound hamster.
Rose: Oh, good luck trying to get that into a decent college.
Rose (to Blanche): I think it may be too late in your life to have a baby. Don't you think that ship has sailed?
Sophia: That ship has sunk!
Blanche has been unable to have children for over six years. She began menopause during the first episode of The Golden Girls' second season in the fall of 1986.
This episode first aired on Lifetime on August 25, 2005.
The title of this episode comes from the popular saying "which came first, the chicken or the egg?".
