While on a routine investigation of a stolen humidifier, Detectives Dan Stark and Jack Bailey stumble upon a much larger crime involving drug smugglers, hired assassins and a golf bag full of cash. • Enjoyable pilot

This is not a show letting on being anything but good old fashioned entertainment, and enjoyable it was.

We've seen partnered up cops in most different scenarios, and if I twist my brain I'll probably come up with a duo these resembles. The washed-out one-big-arrest-wonder Dan (Whitford) and the by-the-book inexperienced Jack isn't that unique or interesting, but the show scores on how they portrait these cops, the criminals and everything else.

Those who's seen some cop shows from the 70's and 80's will giggle as they recognize old skool stuff no longer playing a major part in cop shows, the drunk and victim banging Dan has some character potential, and it sure doesn't hurt Whitford is the actor as I'm a huge fan of him and the overall easy going and relaxed style is refreshing to again see in a show. It's been a while where every show tries to be the next CSI, Cold Case, Numb3rs, Criminal Minds etc etc etc. About time someone again have some good old fun with a cop show.

I was very entertained overall by this pilot, and hopefully they'll be able to keep it up in the following episodes.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Jack is waiting for Dan to privately "interview the victim" of the stolen humidifier, he is reading Quilt, "America's #1 Quilting Magazine", October/November 2009 issue. The front cover's titles include "Scrap Showcase Bear's Paw, Gather Your Harvest Prints, Color Play: Spinning Pinwheels, and 17 Fun Patterns."

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Jack: I just want to know your professional opinion as a district attorney.
Liz: Legally, the fact that you are not officially assigned a case should not hamper prosecution assuming all else is in order. But if you want my nonlegal opinion, and I'm sure you do, don't get involved in a case you're not assigned to. If you fail, you look stupid, and if you succeed, you make everybody else look stupid. I believe the legal concept here is "pissing into the wind".

    • Pedro: Mr. Julius, I was hoping you would call. ¿Cómo estás?
Julius: "¿Cómo estás?" Yo soy enojado, man. Yo soy enojado!
Pedro: You're angry? The verb ser is an identifier. Estoy refers to state of being. You mean to say "yo estoy enojado".

    • Dan: Bein' a cop is not about rules. It's about people. It's about being able to say to Eileen, "Hey, we caught the punk who stole your hudimidifinder."

    • Dan: You know what I think this is?
      : Don't start.
: I think you're still ticked off about the time you and me blew up the taco truck! That's what this--
: Don't you ever bring up that taco truck again! Do you understand me?
      : Yes, sir! (pause) Ma'am.

    • Dan: The lab results. (laughs) I'm not sure I believe that there's little things in your blood floatin' around, carrying this so-called, you know, DNA.
Jack: You don't believe in blood cells.
      : I'm just sayin' the jury's out.

    • Jack: I've been going over cold cases. I-I got a stabbing here from 2002. I mean, look at this! It looks like it was done by a third grader.
Ruiz: Yeah, you see this signature right here, this scribble?
      : Um-hum.
      : That's my name detective.

    • Jack: I know that I have rubbed some people the wrong way.
: You corrected the captain's grammar in front of the chief.
      : And I regret that.
      : Good.
: It's just that there's no such thing as a Statue of Limitations.

    • Dan: I was able to get a--a rough sketch out of her.
: Ugh, Dan, that is a stick figure.
      : Yeah, it's rough!

    • Dan: There are no small crimes, there are only small cops.

    • Jack: I'm calling for backup.
Dan: Tell 'em I said "hi."

    • Dan: I'm going in, just cover me!
Jack: Are you serious? You drank a quart of Bourbon in the car!
      Dan: It was a fifth.
