  • A weak episode but not without merits.

    4.0
This episode has been mentioned as in the "bottom five" Goodies episodes. In my book, it is not quite that bad. There are several funny gags, but it is notable that most funny things are said and done by the guest stars or by bystanders that the Goodies bounce by.

Certainly, the idea of bouncing around the world dressed as toothpaste tubes is something that only The Goodies can do, but no matter how you put it, it is rather childish. The bouncing itself is only funny for a short moment. But after that, the bystanders do help, a lot. Among other things, we see the "racist piano" which also appears in "South Africa", as well as an apartheid zebra crossing.

I must object to the suicide attempts in the end. I never found suicide funny, except possibly when done in short sketches and very, very over the top as in some Monty Python sketches. It isn't very funny here.moreless
  • The Goodies are hired by a toothpaste company to bounce from London to Brighton by space Hopper, but don't stop and continue to bounce across the world. The result? 5 minutes that the Goodies are actually in!moreless

    3.6
This is obviously filler, if the Goodies are in it for exactly five minutes and the rest of the episode surrounds Mr John Smileypegs and minion. There isn't really much more to say except even I didn't think the Goodies could ever sink as low as to write themselves out of an episode.

This is another example of what I was talking about before, guest stars are beginning to become the main part of the series by this episode, but thankfully they realised how bad this episode was and stopped constantly bringing in guest stars. Not that the guest star here is a bad actor, far from it. But this isn't really an episode of the Goodies if all of them have on average five lines.moreless
