  • One of the very best Shows in the 60's. A prime reason why I became so interested in History

I remember this episode well. James MacArthur plays Rodger Young. He attempts to enlist in the Army and has to cheat to pass his eye exam as I recall. (Apparently in real life he also had problems hearing but I do not remember if this was portrayed in the TV episode.) He enters service in the ?US Army during WWII and his unit invades the Island of New Georgia (part of the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific). His platoon is pinned down by a Machine Gun nest during their advance into the island. He is wounded three times but still manages to attack the MG nest and toss Hand Grenades into it. He eventually dies while saving many members of his platoon as they are able to withdraw. He receives the Medal of Honor for his actions. (posthumously)moreless
