The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

Season 4 Episode 9

Duck! / Aren't You Chupacabra To See Me?

Aired Friday 8:30 PM Jun 24, 2005 on Cartoon Network

  • Trivia

    • In the episode Duck!, everybody got sent to jail because of the farting noises, except farting doesn't get you thrown in jail.

    • Major Doctor Ghastly never made her cameo appearance along with Hector Con Carne, Boskov, Skarr, and Cod Commando.

    • The writing on Mandy's paper in the library kept appearing and disappearing.

    • In "Duck", we see Skarr in jail, but he wears the same uniform he did in Evil Con Carne. Why is he wearing the uniform if he no longer works for Hector Con Carne? He should be in his pink shirt.

  • Quotes

    • Mandy: That's the chupacabra?!
Billy: I believe it's pronounced "chupamaflevleh!"

    • Grim: Look at me body! I ain't got no guts, nothing! How could I poot?! I'm a skeleton!
      (kids run off)
Grim: Look at me body! Look at it! Look at it! (spots a police officer behind him)

    • Grim: (talking about chupacabra on Billy) I think it's trying to suck his brains out, mon.
(Chupacabra makes a slurping noise on Billy)
Mandy: The poor thing's gonna starve.

    • Irwin's Dad: I think we better jittity jet.
(Irwin, his dad, and Grandmama run out the stadium and the angry mob are chasing them)
Irwin: Why does this stuff always happen to me, yo?!
      Irwin's Grandmama: I blame the hippity-hop music!

    • (Grim in jail, talking to prisoner)
Grim: So, what are you, uh, in for?
Prisoner: I beat the snot out of a guy...FOR FARTING!
      Grim: (weakly) Guard!
Prisoner: Just the sound of it makes me so ANGRY!
      Grim: Guard!
      Prisoner: ANGRY!!! (smashes fists together)
      Grim: (screaming and sobbing) GUARD!!!

    • Grim: This is the biggest load of hoo-haw I've ever seen! Why do you insist on watching this stupid movie, anyway?
Billy: Am I the only one who understands the complexity of this ambitiously cinematic masterpiece? This movie isn't stupid! You're stupid!!
Grim: (sobbing) Oh, Billy! Why you got to be like that, mon?! (runs out of living room)

    • Grim: Billy, we need to talk.
      Billy: About what, Grim?
Grim: I think it's time that you give back the chupacabra.
Billy: But I love Daisy! She's my faithful canine companion!
Mandy: No she's not, Billy. Daisy is the corporeal manifestation of the TV images you saw the other night.
Billy: Hee, hee, hee! Mandy talk funny words.
Mandy: What I'm trying to say is, Daisy is a ghost cursed to live inside the video. It comes out of the TV to suck the life out of its victims. That's how it lives, how it survives. And now we must return it back to the video from wence it came.
      Billy: But why?!
Grim: Because the video is overdue, and me perfect record is in jeopardy.

    • Irwin's Grandmama: Oh, baby! That is just nasty!

    • Grim: Billy! Oh my gosh! What's that?!
      Billy: What's what?
      Grim: Over there!
      Billy: I don't see...
      Grim: On your back!
      Billy: On my hat?
Grim: Darn it, boy! On your back!
      (Chupacabra appears on Billy's shoulder)

    • Grim: At the rate that duck is getting people arrested, I predict this cell will be full in 4 hours!
("2 Hours Later" card appears, cell is full in half the time Grim predicted)
      Grim: Man, he's working fast!
Hector Con Carne: I'm not even on this stupid show anymore!

    • (Phantom duck farting)
Spectator #1: It's that fat kid!
Spectator #2: He's mocking the goatee!
      Irwin: It's not me!

    • Billy: But if we turn it off, we'll never know what happens to Labbie!
Mandy: (monotonously) "Oh, Labbie, you're our hero. Please, take this golden dog bone as a token of our gratitude."
      Grim: (monotonously) "Woof, woof."
Guy on TV: Oh, Labbie, you're our hero! Please, take this golden dog bone as a token of our gratitude.
      Labbie: Woof, woof!
Billy: Say, are you guys p-sychic?
Grim: No, you pea-brain. We've watched this movie 60 times in a row.

    • Billy: (crying)) I love you, Daisy!
Daisy the Chupacabra: I love you too, Billy. (disappears)

    • Mandy: You think you've won? You think you've humiliated me, broken me, driven me crazy, when everyday of my life I had to deal with...(flashbacks of Billy from previous episodes) And with that, you're just an insignificant pimple on the butt of the world's smallest amoeba. You have no power over me.
      (duck disappears in fear)

    • Mandy: Billy, what happened?
Billy: I don't know. I fell asleep, and had this crazy dream that I was naked at school, and the "chupacablahblah" attacked me.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Irwin's Dad's car: At the side of the engine of Irwin's dad's car, You can see the word "Escalady" written on a small silver plate. This is a spoof of the car Esacalade.

    • Billy: This movie isn't stupid! You're stupid!

This is an indirect reference to "Flowers for Algernon", where Charlie Gordon tells Dr. Strauss that the doctor is dumb. Also, as another reference, on Dexter's Laboratory, they had a chupacabra named Charlie.

    • Hector Con Carne: I'm not even on this stupid show anymore!

It displays the fact that Evil Con Carne no longer airs on Cartoon Network.

    • Mandy: Poor thing's going to starve.

This line is very similar to one in Futurama, where after a brain slug (which feeds on brains) died after staying on Fry's empty head, the Professor examined it and said "Poor thing starved to death."

    • Irwin's dog Irwin's wiener dog is named Oscar.

This is a reference to the Oscar Mayer company, which is famous for its hot dogs.

    • Grim's force:

The way Grim pulled the Labbie video out of the VCR was the same way a Jedi Knight do to grab the lightsaber from Star Wars.

    • Grim: (having a dream) Wait, this is not me beautiful house! This is not me beautiful wife!
Billy: (trying to wake Grim up) Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was!

Grim is quoting the speaking line from the Talking Heads song "Once in a Lifetime", where the singer David Byrne says, "and you may say to yourself 'this is not my beautiful house,' and you may tell yourself 'this is not my beautiful wife!'" Billy completes the reference by reciting the ending part of the song, which has David Byrne chanting "same as it ever was" over and over.

    • Movie Title: Labbie

It's a spoof of the movie about a heroic dog from the first movie Lassie. Both of them have the same boy named Timmy.

    • Scenario: Ghost inside the video tape.

The way Daisy emerges from the television is a reference to the horror movie, The Ring, where a ghost haunts the video tape.

    • Scenario: Wearing beards at a baseball game

Irwin and his family are going to a baseball game and are wearing fake goatees, as is the rest of the audience. This is probably mocking the pitcher Matt Clement, who has a recognizable goatee and some fans like to wear similar fake goatees to games when he pitches.
