Nick is dealing with two tricky cases: an 18 year old young man who wants permission to stay in the children's home until he is 21 otherwise he won't be able to get into college. Also, a woman who wants to prevent her husband who has a brain injury from seeing her children. Both cases go his way, and he agrees to help out the boy Jesse, after the judge rules he must earn some money to pay his college tuition if he is to stay in the home.
Jesse is the new office boy at Fallin and Fallin and is very keen to learn. Nick takes Jess with him to Legal Services so he can see what the law is like.
While there, the man with the brain injury turns up with a gun. Jesse tries to help Nick, but is shot. Lulu arrives and cons the man into giving up his gun by pretending to be his lawyer.
Jesse is brain damaged and Lulu is in trouble with the legal review body for lying, so Nick defends her.
Meanwhile, Burton takes in Mandy and Shannon after their house burns down. He helps get the insurance money but is keen for them to stay on living with him.
After their day in court, Lulu and Nick share a moment at the office.
This was a good episode, where the genuinely likeable Jesse's fate was a really sad one. We see Nick quite badly affected by the tragedy, and further developments in the relationship between Nick and Lulu. I was a little confused by the ending, where they share a moment and then Lulu goes into Nick's office closing the door behind her as they smile at each other and the credits role. Is something going on now?moreless
