Nothing is more indicative of the change in the characters of the Hardy Boys than this episode, in which Frank points a gun right at his brother.
It's being hinted that the character Patrick Macnee plays is Steed from The Avengers. He's a spy and has his iconic bowler hat and umbrella. But no doubt because of rights to the character, he is simply billed as "S."
(Spoiler) Wendy Chase turns out to have a split personality called Gwynn who's the one actually kidnapping the girls.
Continuity: While speaking to Abrams, Joe mentions that a former spy and friend, Alexander Cartel, had once tried to kill his father, Fenton Hardy. This happened in the episode, "Acapulco Spies."
In the scene where the aide goes into Joe's room to show him the newspaper, it says Tuesday, February 28th, 1979. That is a mistake firstly because there isn't a Tuesday, February 28th in 1979 and secondly because he said his father and brother where to meet the defector on Wednesday the 25th of the same year. The 25th can't be a Wednesday if the 28th is a Tuesday.
The house used in this episode is the same as the one used in the pilot episode "Mystery of the Haunted House"
Shaun Cassidy sings one of his songs in this episode called Hey Deanie.
In this episode, Nancy Drew and Frank Hardy share a kiss.
Shaun Cassidy sings one of his songs in this episode called "Teen Dream".
The footage of the actual football game is likely taken from the classic 1971 Oklahoma-Nebraska game which was played at Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Nov 25. In the footage, Oklahoma's quarterback and running back wore No. 11 and 30, which would match what Jack Mildren and Greg Pruitt wore. Nebraska won by a score of 35-31.
When Frank and Joe go back to Witch's Hollow to retrieve their's & their friend's sleeping bags, you see them put out the camp fire. The fire had already been out when they left the camp site after hearing Calley scream in the woods.
The building used as "Haunted House" is used again later in the season two episode"House on Possessed Hill"
