Well, Lauren Conrad confirmed that she actually did not speak with Spencer on the phone and both scenes were just filmed with the two actors on the phone, but not with each other, and dubbed together to make it look that way. But if realism was something I expected from this show I would have stopped watching a long time ago. This was a moment people have been clamoring for and it was still exciting, as was the episode in general. For the first time in awhile The Hills is actually building up to a big season finale, instead of just having it as a random 13th episode of the season where nothing significant happens. Let's see what goes down next week, even though I think we all have a good idea of what will happen.
