The History of Sex

Show Summary

The History of Sex is a 1999 five-part documentary series produced by The History Channel that tells the story of human sexuality from the beginning of recorded times in ancient Greece up to the present day, crafting an illuminating account of both the many ways things have changed over the years and the many more ways things have remained the same. This series is narrated by Peter Coyote and includes interviews with leading figures in sex, from Dr. Ruth Westheimer, known for her candid conversation about sexual health on radio and TV, to Hugh Hefner, the always high-profile creator of Playboy magazine. Each episode of the series focuses on a different period in history. The first episode covers Ancient Greece, then the series moves on to the Eastern world, the middle ages, the Victorian era, and finally the 20th century and the changes caused by sexually transmitted infections, birth control, and the sex industry.
