The Honeymooners

CBS (ended 1978)

  • Season 5 Episode 25: Pardon My Glove

  • 2 consecutive flubs happen near the end of this episode.

First, as Andre is being thrown out of the apartment by a steamed Ralph, you can clearly hear Andre say: "I'm through, Mrs. Kranston!!" Kranston? Should've been Kramden obviously.

And meanwhile, as Andre is leaving, you can see Ralph's hand coming through the "glass" of the window, still holding the glove as well. And what makes this even funnier is that just moments earlier, Jackie made a valiant attempt to feign glass being present by placing his hands flat against the panes, as if there really was glass in the window. Alas, it all goes out the window, so to speak, moments later.

  • Season 5 Episode 21: A Dog's Life

  • Notice that when Ralph says something to the effect that he can't ask Alice for the recipe because she will think it's just another scheme his suit coat is OPEN. In the very next moment his suit coat is BUTTONED.

  • In 2001 WPIX in New York (which has aired Honeymooners episodes ever since the classic 39 were first syndicated) was trying to find lost 16mm footage of a fireplace to revive the station's trademark presentation The Yule Log which had been off the air for 11 years. The original footage was found in WPIX's New Jersey storage warehouse in a film can marked 'The Honeymooners - "A Dog's Life"'. Because of this, when WPIX created a 40th anniversary special for the show in 2006, they called it The WPIX Yule Log - A Log's Life

  • Art Carney flubs his line, and Jackie Gleason has to correct it for him during the dinner table scene where they're naming the new food. (Quotes not verbatim.)

Ralph: "How about Kranmar's Delicious Mystery Appetizer?"

Ed: "Yeah, Kranmar's Mystery Delicious-" (Pauses as if he knows he's messed it up but can't quite remember the real thing.)

    Ralph: "No, Delicious Mystery."

Ed: "Oh, yeah, yeah. Kranmar's Delicious Mystery Appetizer!"

  • Ralph Flubs his line when talking about Alices mom to Mr. Marshall. He says her mother inlaw.

  • Ralph decides to keep the dog at the end as well as some others..they of course never show up in the next episode. Although this is a bit nitpicky I have to give a little space in light of the fact that back in that day TV was fairly new and I don't think they had the total formula down yet

  • Season 5 Episode 20: Young At Heart

  • Ralph asks the counterman for "a couple of cups of coffee," but the man gives him three.

  • Season 5 Episode 19: Ralph Kramden, Inc.

  • When Norton faints, he carefully catches his hat to make sure it stays on his head once he hits the floor.

  • Season 5 Episode 18: The $99,000 Answer

  • During the piano practice session, Ralph correctly guesses all but one of the songs Norton plays on the piano. The last one, however, seems to stump Ralph - while drawing snickers from the audience. The reason this is funny is because the song is none other than "Melancholy Serenade" aka Jackie Gleason's theme song. A little inside joke by The Great One obviously. And in fact, if the viewer freeze frames this scene while Norton is turning over the sheet music to that song, there is a moment when you can clearly see Jackie's head shot on the cover, thus reinforcing that Ed really was blessed with that musical talent.

Of course, before Ralph gets a chance to correctly identify the song, "Jealous McGarrity" knocks at the door and the boys get distracted from their rehearsing.

  • Season 5 Episode 17: The Babysitter

  • When the lady tells Alice that the babysitting job is "only 3 blocks from here" and the address is 383 Himrod St.
Alice's address is on 328 Chauncey st and 383 Himrod street is about 2 miles from there.

  • Ralph flubs his lines when scolding Norton at the barber shop.He barely makes it thru his lines.

  • At the end of the episode it is implied that they are going to keep the phone which of course never shows up in future episodes

  • Season 5 Episode 16: Oh My Aching Back

  • Notice how when Ed goes to get the thermometer out of the drawer, he never actually looks in the drawer to see where the thermometer is. Yet somehow he knows EXACTLY where to pick it up even though he is looking back at Ralph the entire time.

  • Ralph accidentally calls the heating pad the sleeping pad

  • Ralph's supposed to be in so much pain from his strained back that he has trouble moving. But when it's time for him to go to the window to 'summon' Norton, Gleason bends over to open it without any effort whatsoever.

  • Season 5 Episode 15: A Matter of Record

  • When Alice storms out of the apartment after Ralph throws out her mother, she is only wearing her house dress. But, when she comes home she has on a coat.

  • Alice told Ralph that he told her he would take her to a Broadway play on Thursday, August 5, 1942. August 5 was on a Wednesday that year.

  • In this episode, Alice tells Ralph that she can't go with him to "Murder Strikes Out" because her mother is coming "all the way from Bensonhurst". Alice's mother lives in Astoria, NY and the Kramdens are the ones that live in Bensonhurst. Gleason plays along with replying, "...where's Bensonhurst, in New Zealand?"

  • Season 5 Episode 14: The Man from Space

  • This episode was featured by name in Michael J. Fox's movie, Back to the Future. In the movie, Marty McFly went back to October 1955 and saw this episode on the Baines' brand new television. But the "Man From Space" episode did not air until two months later.

  • A piece of Ralph's costume falls onto the floor. Meadows ad-libs "You're losing it already." Gleason ad-libs in response "Don't touch that- that's my de-naturizer."
