Show Summary

The Human Face is a four-part scientific documentary TV series developed by BBC that focuses on the science behind the face, including facial beauty, facial expressions, and its importance in perception, creativity, and sexuality. Actor, comedian, and intellectual extraordinaire John Cleese takes on the task to unlock just what secrets are hiding in the unique mask of a person's face. Part One focuses on cultural identity and gender as Cleese shows looks into family resemblances and the purpose a face can have in telling of a person's history. Part Two centers on fame and the iconic looks of Princess Diana, Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe, and Cleopatra. What is it about the face and its beauty that allows it to sell products? Part Three delves into the question of beauty and its affect it has on people's interactions. What is the unconscious perception of big eyes, smooth skin, and symmetrical features? Part Four digs into the idea of micro expressions and the face's ability to communicate beyond words. With twitches, quirks, and immediate facial reactions, the face holds a number of expressions and all it takes is knowing how to read them.moreless
