The directors/producers played a good mind game on David and the viewers leading up to and during David's hulk transformation. David's transformation is provoked by fear of himself (as the Hulk), then the Hulk is aggravated and attacks objects that he believes are David. David was essentially angry and scared of himself. All from being high on what was slipped in his drink.
