  • David Banner's Tenderness Shines Through

    10
Two stories become one in this touching account of a young widow and corrupt union leaders. David takes a job as a bartender at a struggling bar. His boss is a young widow whose late husband challenged shady doings in the leadership of the local 696 union (down on the waterfront).

David helps Josie (the young widow) deal with her grief and uncovers the real reason for her late husband's death. Of course Jack McGee shows up at just the wrong time and almost catches David (and the Hulk).

I love the scenes where both David and Josie share tender moments. You can't help but feel compassion for both of them as they help each other deal with their losses. It's a great episode and one of my favorites.moreless
  • End of Season One

    6.0
Not counting the season one leftover "A Child In Need" aired in season two, "The Waterfront Story" ends the first year of Hulk -- one that was filled with some great stories, some embarrassing filler and episodes that generally represent a stark contrast to later chapters.

Nevertheless, the episode is only average, with a plot that resembles many that will come after it. But guest stars James Sikking ("Hill Street Blues") and Sheila Larken, who'll go on to a recurring role in "The X-Files," give a fine performance.

Bixby's infrequent role as a romantic counterpart is again an interesting and satisfying twist in this otherwise unremarkable outing.

    • David: You are sure the fish are biting this early in the morning, huh?
Josie: I thought you said you were an angler.
David: Oh no, no. "Wrangler!" "Wrangler!"
      Josie: A cop out.
David: More like a case of "mistaken semantics," I think.

    • Josie: David, David! You really leaving this time?
David: Josie, I have to, I've stayed too long already.
Josie: What kind of trouble are you in? Is there anything I can help you with?
David: No. If there was, I'd ask. Believe me.
Josie: Bribery won't work this time, will it?
      (David shakes his head)
Josie: No one for Josie to lean on.
      David: Except Josie.
