The Innocence Project

Show Summary

Law dramas are always full of delicious tension, and the BBC One series is no exception. Well-acted and well-written, The Innocence Project centers around a group of fiercely dedicated law students who take on forgotten and unwanted pro bono cases for clients who were possibly wrongfully convicted. Part law drama and part investigative suspense, this series spotlights the flaws in the system.

Lacking the über-dramatics of the US version, this series was very watchable, but didn't really engage me until about episode four. I'm a law junkie from a long way back, and perhaps the dearth of technical details in the early episodes left me feeling incomplete at the end.

Along comes the half-way point, and everything just lock-steps. Interesting cases, enough legal minutiae to make me happy and jabs at the US to tickle my funny bone. There was a rape case where they explored consent, a homicide that was perhaps a suicide, an untruthful client or two, and the drama sort of started to build. I believe they ended this too soon. Another four or five episode, and it really would have been an above-average to excellent series. Perhaps a second series will be ordered and they'll have another chance.moreless
