Episode Summary

Does Happiness Grow Up?
William gets tested to see if he can be a sperm donor for Donna, and is shocked to find out that he is infertile. He is plunged into a depression that he can't be a father, but doesn't tell Lindy, who can't work out what is wrong. As he withdraws more from her, she finds it harder to resist the flirtations of Robert, the French Canadian executive who is wooing her to come to Toronto and take the job he is offering. When she tells William she's been offered the job, he reacts badly. He doesn't want to go to Canada to live. Eventually Lindy succumbs to Robert's advances and sleeps with him, but immediately feels guilty. She realises she's giving herself a reason to end her relationship and goes home to William, determined to fix things. William tells her about his infertility and challenges her to admit that she doesn't want kids. Lindy can't answer. She tells Robert that she doesn't think William will be coming with her to Toronto, but she will still take the job. Unbeknown to her, William is told by his specialist that the reason for his infertility is that he is suffering from testicular cancer. He keeps this to himself, and he and Lindy end the episode estranged. James and Barry challenge each other to ask a simple question. Barry has to ask his birth mother why she gave him away; and James has to ask Tina out. But Barry's teasing about 'relationship chaos theory' - the idea that one tiny thing could change your whole life, freaks James out. He finds himself frozen in the street unable to call Tina and ask her out. Fortunately, Tina calls him, and, charmed by his concern, takes the first step. They spend the day at Julie's, where Tina rejects the advances of a repentant Sam, and at the end of the day, she and James kiss. Meanwhile, Barry finds out that his birth mother never wanted to give him away and is delighted that he has come back into her life. James concludes that sometimes when a butterfly beats its wings in Brazil, a tornado that was going to happen, doesn't.moreless
