A Great Deliverance, Part 2
AIRED:
The investigation of William Tey's murder leads Lynley and Havers into the seamy side of a quiet English village. Although he was a stalwart of the local church, Tey had a hidden past which provides a wide range of suspects and motives. It seems that an old case of infanticide may hold the key to the present case.moreless

This is the 2nd part of A Great Deliverance. Being a new fan of British mysteries, I was looking forward to this one featuring Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small. By the end of Part 1, I thought the partnership between Lynley and Havers would be short lived. However, they proved me wrong - thankfully! They play off of each other beautifully and Lynley, himself being snubbed because of his lineage, understands Havers, herself being snubbed because (1) she is a woman working in a man's field and (2) because of her bad manners, for the detective she is. As they continue to work with each other, they are watching each other closely, trying to decide what is fact and what is fiction in relation to each other's character, which they only know through gossip in the police department. Both begin to respect the other for their individual detective skills and realize that together they could make a great team. The viewers are the ones who benefit from the greatness of this team. I have now watched all available Lynley Mysteries available in the U.S. and must say I have never been disappointed in the performances of Parker or Small. AGD could have been tied up neatly in one episode but the producers, I believe, were unfolding these characters for us, piece by piece, giving us a chance to watch them get to know each other, resulting in us getting to know them and falling in love with them. Job well done, Lynley and Havers! I'm eagerly (and impatiently) waiting for more.moreless
