In this episode Vincent has his first close encounter with a (relatively) friendly alien in the person of Vicki, played by Suzanne Pleshette. (She will later appear in the Season 2 episode The Pursued as a different alien.) We also get our first good look at the outside of one of the aliens' saucers as well as a relatively large and bulky version of their disintegrator weapons. Vincent also finds out what happens to aliens who die on Earth. In future episodes, the ultimate test of whether someone he meets is an alien or not will be the fiery vanishing of its body when it is killed.

In all, both Vincent and the viewer learn a great deal more about the aliens' technology, their strengths and weaknesses--and that not all of them are as ruthless as the ones seen so far. The existence of Invaders willing to at least consider working with humanity instead of exterminating it that is depicted in later episodes, such as Summit Meeting or The Life Seekers, is foreshadowed by this one.moreless

    • This episode marks the first time we see the aliens disintegrate upon being killed which will be a regular part of nearly all the episodes to follow. Edit
    • This episode takes place in Texas, but the location is wrong. The tall plants, called Joshua trees, are not found in Texas, but are found in California. Something else not found in Texas is the Gila Monster, a venomous lizard with a natural range that includes parts of S.E. California, Arizona, and S.W. New Mexico, not Texas. Edit

    • Closing Narration: For a moment, in the desert South of Rosario, a man and woman came together across a void of space and time. Two people, star crust from alien worlds. In the months to come, David Vincent will remember that moment. Edit
    • Opening Narration: Three weeks since the report of the crash and strange glowing lights have brought reporters, the air force and David Vincent to the border town Rosario. Betrayed by his own kind and left to die under a blazing sun, he retains a vision of a ship launched by another kind, under another sun. Now, the air force and reporters are gone, and David Vincent remains to begin the search again. Edit
