(in monologue, discussing his hospitalization last month)
Jack: Years ago when i wasn't making much money, I had the same thing and it was a plain stomachache. Now it's pancreatitis...and eight hundred dollars!
Jack: I stopped in to see that poor Higgins family across the tracks.
Nurse: You mean the one with twelve children?
Jack: Yes. The father isn't working, they have no clothes, there's no heat in the house...and this morning I operated on their youngest son.
Nurse: What was wrong with him?
Jack: Not a thing. I just felt that I ought to do something.
Jack had already done take-offs on Jekyll/Hyde on his radio program on 4/7/1933, 3/31/1935, 11/30/1941 and 12/7/1941, and 1/27/1952.
