George: Jack, your eyes are blue, aren't they?
Jack: Bluer than the government stamp on a hind quarter of beef.
(discussing Gov. Goodwin knight)
Jack: He's a wonderful fellow. He wouldn't tell you this himself, but on four different occasions, he pardoned the boys in my orchestra!
The $100-a-plate toast/roast was held on Jack's birthday (2/14/57) in the ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Proceeds went to the Heart Association. Among the 800 attending were Dean Martin, Bob Hope, Ronald Reagan, Frank Sinatra, George Burns and Issac Stern.
