When George enters the clubhouse, he makes sure to latch the chain behind him. Later in the scene, when the rest of the Strays enter, they open the door with no problem, and you can see behind them that the chain is not broken.

Louise told Mrs. Whittendale that she and George never had a dog. However, in the "All In The Family" episode 'Gloria the Victim", Lionel told Archie that their dog, Wilma, ate the foot-long hot dogs Edith brought over to defrost.
The reason for Mr. Bentley's being in Russia is due to Bentley having an affair with an Ambassador's wife. The Ambassador had Bentley transferred to Russia in retaliation.
This same storyline with the diary is later used on an episode of Family Matters.
When George is leaving the Bradley building to meet who could be his father-in-law, he is seen putting the picture of Louise and her father back into the photo album. Later, when George hands Louise his checkbook, she finds the same picture there. It is never explained how the picture of Louise and her father got from the photo album to George's checkbook.
