Springer to return with multiyear pact

After deciding not to seek a return to political office, Jerry Springer has signed a new multiyear deal to continue hosting his TV talk show.

"I truly enjoy doing it, [and] people seem to enjoy watching it," Springer said in a statement issued Monday by the show's syndicator, NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution.

The company said it has also renewed The Jerry Springer Show in more than 85 percent of the country through the 2006-07 season, including 45 of the top 50 markets. Among the top-market stations are WPIX New York and KTLA Los Angeles.

Springer, a former mayor of Cincinnati, recently considered running for the office of US senator from Ohio.

Jerry Springer musical performs out of court

A British musical based on the tabloid talk show The Jerry Springer Show has drawn the ire of a religious group in Britain.

The group, The Christian Institute, asked Britain's High Court to put the BBC under judicial review for airing Jerry Springer - The Musical. The group said the BBC breached the conditions of its Royal Charter by discriminating against Christians. The High Court rejected the group's assertion.

The BBC has received 47,000 complaints about the musical, which featured God as a talk show host.

In a statement, BBC director of television Jana Barrett said the ruling upheld the BBC's editorial independence and supported free speech: "While we take any potential to offend the audience very seriously, we believe that it is the BBC's right and duty to remain a public space in which the widest range of ideas and creativity can be shared by ...

The Jerry Springer Show is probably most known for its foul mouths, excessive fighting, excessive nudity and wacky stories. Nearly every episode, if not all, have at least one bleeped over foul word. Then there's the sound effects. A clanging bell indicates it's time for a fight! Whenever a fat woman shows her boobs, the sound of a cow going "MOO!" is heard. Even the audience gets into it! Women show their boobs to get "Jerry Beads". Whenever a touching good moment happens or an audience member asks a goody goody logical question, the audience chants, "Go to Oprah"! TV Guide voted The Jerry Springer Show as the "Worst Show In The History of Television." A new UK version will soon be airing on ITV1 for 4 weeks after the UK's talk show queen Trisha Goddard left ITV to present her new five show Trisha Goddard.
