Elroy is looking forward to the evening when his parents will hear about the high grades he's gotten in school. But underachieving classmate Kenny Countdown switches report tapes on him, leaving George angry with his son after hearing the wrong one. Fearing his father's wrath, Elroy runs away from home with Astro. Along the way, he encounters criminal Mugsy Megaton and his gang, which includes a gorilla for extra muscle. Mugsy tricks Elroy into breaking into a jewelry shop, then takes him back home so they can hide out from the police. After the mob captures George and Jane as well, it's up to Astro to break free and get the police back to help save the family.

I am glad this DIDN'T end up being the Jetsons' series finale after all...

This is another "Jetsons" episode that showcased a primary villain--in this case, Mugsy Megaton, a criminal who employed a freeze gas gun as well as a giant ape as an accomplice. Mugsy also had Microbe as an assistant, who was akin to the moll employed by Knuckles Nuclear. Too bad this wasn't an episode of "Super Jetsons"--the family could have used their fingers to wiggle their way out of their knots via smashing transformation into their costumed identities a la Drak Pack. The "Flintstones" episode ("Fred's Swimming Pool") that was shown on Kenny Countdown's wristwatch still evokes nostalgic value to this day. The Jetsons are at their best when stories are far from typical and when the family face frightening situations that might befall Scooby Doo and the gang. This episode succeeds on those counts.moreless
