    I avoided the original on BBC when I knew they were making an English version so I'll be watching, but now I read that it hasn't got good reviews

    You really missed out by "avoiding" the original. its some of the best tv in recent years. Its no different to watching science fiction in some ways - there's a different world and phrases you aren't familiar with.

    Why are people so put off by subtitles?

    I watched the original and loved it. I'll give the US version a go ... but may give up as I know how it ends!

    You're right i've seen all the boring 13 episodes and it's not worth persevering for the end, which is left open.
