In the scene where Doug is going to take Sparky for a walk and he is talking to Arthur, Doug puts on his jacket. The scene cuts to Arthur and when it cuts back to Doug he puts his jacket on again.
Doug: The movie starts in, like, 15 minutes. You want to pick up the pace, Arthur?
Arthur: Excuse me for chewing.
Doug: It's mashed potatoes. You don't have to chew every bite 48 times.
Arthur: Your gambling is clearly out of control.
Danny: Nah, nah, nah—I'm just running cold. I'm due for a hot streak. I know it.
Arthur: I said the same thing after I wagered on President Thomas E. Dewey and a series of white heavyweights.
Doug: There's a block party out there and we're the only couple not invited. I mean, look, there's the guy who everyone thinks killed his wife. He's out there.
Carrie: Doug, it's a block party. Really, what are we missing? (derisive) "Oh, I like the onion dip." "My, hasn't Billy grown?" Please.
Carrie: Most people go to a block party and come back with a pie, not a dog.
Doug: I did bring home a pie. You missed it.
Carrie: I was just upstairs, and apparently somebody peed in the hallway.
Doug: Yeah, that was me.
Carrie: Doug, you took a perfectly good dog and turned him into a big, lazy eating machine. And in case you hadn't noticed, I already got one of those.
The German episode title is "Hund zu verschenken", meaning "Free Dog".
The day after this episode aired it was officially announced that this was the final season.
Music: Queen's "You're My Best Friend"
Though credited, Patton Oswalt and Victor Williams do not appear in this episode.
When trying to give away the dog, Doug berates Carrie's failure with "Always be closing," a mantra from David Mamet's 1984 play (and later 1992 movie by James Foley) Glengarry Glen Ross.
