Show Summary

The King's Speech Revealed is a documentary television program that tells the true story behind the Academy Award winning film The King's Speech. The TV show, which was originally broadcast on the Smithsonian Channel, features Mark Logue, the grandson of Lionel Logue, the speech therapist who worked with King George VI. The King's Speech Revealed follows Mark as he conducts an investigation into the fascinating relationship between his grandfather Lionel and the speech impaired King. Mark researches Lionel's upbringing and family background in Australia, and explores how Lionel's passion for theatrical stage performance eventually led to his interest in speech and his groundbreaking recognition of psychological issues as a major cause of speech impediments. Mark traces Lionel's history, taking a look at his move to the United Kingdom and his time spent treating the King. He also speaks with one of Lionel's former patients in order to get a full grasp of Lionel's speech therapy techniques. Actor Geoffrey Rush and screenwriter David Seidler appear on the program to explain how Lionel's life story was translated to film.
