"Early renewals" is apparently the theme of this year's Television Critics Association summer press tour. Just a few hours after El Rey handed a second season to its upcoming soccer n' spies drama Matador, which doesn't premiere until next week, Cinemax awarded a second season to The Knick nearly a full month before the show's August debut.
The series, which Tim is super duper crazy excited for, comes from the oh-so-excellent Steven Soderbergh and stars Clive Owen (and his mustache) as a surgeon working at the dawn of the 20th century. It won't be a show to watch during dinner, as it follows the rise of medicine during an era when people regularly died on the operating table, doctors did plenty of experimenting, and nurses having spare time to sex it up in the janitor's closet were but a glimmer in Shonda Rhimes' not-even-born-yet eye.
Soderbergh is set to direct all 10 episodes of Season 1.
The Knick premieres August 8 at 10pm on Cinemax.
