The Knick is a new Cinemax drama series from creators and writers, Jack Amiel and Michael Begler, along with Academy Award and Emmy-winning director Steven Soderbergh. Set in downtown New York in 1900, the series centers on the Knickerbocker Hospital and it staff of pioneering surgeons and nurses who are pushing the boundaries of medicine. Executive directors include Jack Armiel, Michael Begler, Gregory Jacobs, Stephen Sodebergh, Michael Sugar and Clive Owen.

The cast includes Clive Owen as Dr. John Thackery who is a talented and ground breaking surgeon with a secret addiction to cocaine. His team includes protégé Dr. Everett Gallinger, Dr. Bertie Chickering Jr. and Dr. Algernon Edwards. Hospital staff include Cornelia Robertson, ambulance driver Tom Cleary, nurse Lucy Elkins, dishonest hospital administrator Herman Barrow and Sister Harriet.
